Thank You Chef Gordon!

Last Sunday, I happened to watch an episode of Masterchef US Season 3. After the elimination challenge, the contestants, one by one, would present their "finished food" for the judges to taste. To make the long story short, when it was Tali's turn to present his food Chef Gordon interrupted him and angrily went to his kitchen station. Chef Gordon was scolding Tali like a child because his station was a mess!!! Dirty pans were on the floor and piles of trashes were just scattered in his station. Before tasting the food Tali cooked, Chef Gordon told him that "A messy situation creates a messy output (or something like that)." True enough, the food Tali created was blah blah!

Indeed, when our table in the office is messy... when documents are not filed properly... or when our thoughts are disoriented.. the tendency is for us to deliver our work inefficiently. The same goes with our relationships. When we have a lot of insecurities, worries, or hang-ups, the way we deal with others will be affected. Arguments may often arise.

A messy situation doesn't only literally means a cluttered room or area. It can also mean a disoriented thought. Naks! For me being messy is all mindset. Because if we engrossed ourselves with so much negativity then the result would be a messy life. So if we want to achieve that happy, balanced life we must do ourselves a favor by only engaging in positive thoughts. Yes, life can sometimes be harsh even if we've been good but if we don't dwell on the not-so-good-part... our life will eventually turn the way it's supposed to be - blissful.

"Fall in love to look beautiful." - Francois Nars

Here is an article of Philippines Daily Inquirer about Francois Nars - famed make-up guru and founder of Nars - that is worth sharing to all women out there. I actually just copied all his "words of wisdom" regarding beauty, style, and embracing your individuality that captured my heart. Hope you'll learn a lot from him as much as I did.

  1. “There was a time when everybody wore red lipstick even if you didn’t like it,” he said. “Now there aren’t so many rules. There’s a whole rainbow of possibilities. Find what’s best for you. Don’t follow trends! Follow your own style!”
  2. Nars said the most common mistake most women make is that they wear too much makeup. That, or they’re using the wrong product, or they’re not using the products right. A lot of women fail at the most basic, like not properly blending their foundation to match the shade of the neck.
  3. “There’s no more excuse to look bad. There’s a lot of information now. There’s the Internet.”
  4. "Makeup should express who you are, and enhance what you have. You don’t become a whole different person.”
  5. 'Wear bright colors if it fits you. If you’re not used to wearing brights, mix them with neutrals and tone them down.
  6. “Beauty is someone who has a personal style. If you have a strong personality, beauty comes through. It’s not just the external, there are also one’s character and intelligence.”
  7. “Makeup can’t go without good skincare. I don’t believe in covering bad skin with makeup. If the canvas is dirty, it won’t look great."
  8. “A lot go overboard and become obsessed, and they end up not looking right. It’s our society that’s always looking for youth. If you take good care of yourself, the way you live your life… Wrinkles are a beautiful thing, but society doesn’t allow that.”
  9. This man who has worked on the most beautiful faces on the runways and magazine covers has a simple advice for women to enhance their natural beauty. “Fall in love!” he said. “A woman in love is always more beautiful.”
  10. Then, he added in jest, “If you’re not in love, there’s always Nars.”

Flashback Friday: I Love Bohol!

I've been to bohol in 2004 and I swear I would go back 'coz I haven't been able to enjoy the place that much. Luckily, last May 2011 my barkada together with our boyfriends went back there and oh how we enjoyed so much! And to tell you the truth I still want to go back there because there's still a lot of places I haven't visited. Bohol is such a paradise! Touring there is quite affordable too especially if you're in a group. You can save a lot by hiring a van (trust me you need one since the tourist spots are miles away from each other) and by renting an apartment, like what we did!
Chocolate Hills. Your Bohol tour is incomplete without getting there.
 Man-made Forest.
Butterfly Farm. We enjoyed our tour there especially that our guide was so funny!
Baclayon Church. You need to be covered when going inside 'coz it's such a sacred place.
 Bohol Bee Farm.
Dinner at Bohol Tropics and videoke after.
 Hinagdanan Cave.
Sandugo.
 Lunch at Loboc River.
Loboc Choir (sorry for the blurry pic).
Panglao Beach. So nice to chill there. The place is beautiful and the water is clear. Plus the foods are yummy and affordable!
Zipline at Loboc.
Our house.

So much have changed since our trip in Bohol. I would really want to go back there since the place is so relaxing. Gosh I miss travelling. How about you where's your dream destination?

Red Day

Dress Forever 21 | Shoes Rusty Lopez | Bag bought in Greenhills | Necklace and Belt c/o MyMother| | Ring c/o Boyfriend
This dress was bought by my father when he went to Manila last week. His choices of dress has actually been improving. Yay!!! I actually want to pair this dress with heels but I opted for flats. Probably next time I'll wear with a blazer and heels. You can actually create a lot of looks for a simple dress like this. What do you think? :)

Flashback Friday: Trick Art Museum

A gallery of 3D art freehand painted by famous Korean artists, highlights interactive paintings that visualize 3D optical illusions when a picture is taken with it.  - Seri Fantasy World

If you're looking for a fun way to step up your camwhoring, Trick Art Museum is one of the best place to go to. It is located at the 2nd floor of Manila Ocean Park. Reminder: If there are only two of you who will go there then I suggest bringing a tripod. :)

Don't Expect People To Adjust For You Except If You're A Superstar

I've been contemplating lately regarding my personality. You see I'm a very bubbly person to the point that I can be hyperactive and be misinterpreted later on. I'm also emotional. I get angry, irritated, sad, and happy easily. But I'm not bipolar ok? :) It's just that I'm sensitive, I guess. It can be good at times actually but it can also do harm. I'm also the type who speaks my mind. I can be brutally frank. Or maybe I'm just trying to be funny, it's just that no one is laughing. Hehe..

Anyway... lately I've learned that WE SHOULD NOT EXPECT PEOPLE TO ADJUST ON OUR PERSONALITY AND ATTITUDE. Each one of us are going through something so who are we to demand special treatment from others? Except of course if you're a superstar, lol! Let your personality shine wherever you go. But let us just be reminded that it won't hurt to be a little nicer. If we feel good in ourselves then it will show on how we treat others.

Sometimes when I look at women who are "prim and proper" I question myself why I can't be like them - soft spoken and poised. I suddenly feel ashamed of my loud and "cowgirl" personality. But then I realized that I can still be "prim and proper" without giving up my zest. It's just about having the right behavior at the right time and place. If you're in the workplace (especially in a bank like me) you should act professionally. Deliver what is expected from you with high work ethics. If you're with friends, then try to loosen up. Laugh for all you care but be sensitive with the things you say and how you say them. When you're with people you barely know, don't try to feel too close already. Be polite with your conversations.

So no matter who we are or what's our personalities like, it's just about loving ourselves and treating others nicely. Yes, we can't please everybody. But isn't it nice to sleep soundly at night knowing that if you'll wake up tomorrow you're not worried that you may have been a pain to someone? Instead of expecting from people to be more sensitive of us, let us have a better version of ourselves. Who knows it can actually make a difference, right?

*I'm a work-in-progress, as I always say, but this post is my way of reminding myself to be nicer to everybody I encounter.

What A Girl Should Be According to Coco Chanel

When I was about 2 or 3 years old, I was such a spoiled brat! Even though I had no hair, I felt like the cutest kid in town. Haha! But my family would often tell me that what made me cute then was not my "physical appearance" but my wit. I may not be able to pronounce the words well but I talk like an adult already. I would even bash people at times. Tsk, tsk...not proud of it though, haha!

When I started going to school at 5 years old, I became timid and behave. My elementary days were tough. I don't know what happened to the audacious girl I used to be. I was bullied and had a low self-esteem. I didn't feel like a kid because I had to meet certain expectations. I didn't feel like myself. Heck I don't even know who I was neither what I want to do!

Highschool. I had some of the best and  worst days during my highschool. Insecurities may arise but I get by... This is the time wherein I finally started to get comfortable with my own skin. I would not have survived highschool without my friends and classmates.

College was about getting lost and finding my way back. There were times that I felt free but still hidden. I felt so sure but I was wrong in the end. College was about making mistakes and learning from them.

Now...I'm in my 20's. In a few years I'll be 30 already. I wonder if Coco Chanel will be proud of me. Haha! Or my loved ones is. I do hope so. I'm still a work-in-progress. I do believe that I have already confidence in me. Slowly, I'm starting to let go of my worries and insecurities. Little by little I'm beginning to trust and believe in myself more. Though there are times that I hate myself for acting so "un-lady like" grrrr... I can be loud and laugh for all I care or I can be maldita! Not proud of it! Time and time again I'm reminding myself of what Coco Chanel said that "A GIRL SHOULD BE CLASSY & FABULOUS."

A woman with class is someone who knows how to act and behave depending on the place and situation.A woman with class possesses grace. She is a woman who is beautiful inside and out. She is a woman with innate goodness. She is calm, confident, and smart.

While a fabulous woman is someone who knows how to have fun and let loose once in a while. She doesn't take herself too seriously but is motivated in achieving her dreams. She is a happy and free person. A fabulous woman loves herself as well as the people around her.

How about you? What do you think makes a woman classy and fab?

Sunzibar: Tacloban's Tiny Haven

Rum Ribs with 2 glass of raspberry iced tea
Creamy tomato soup

Hot beef nachos
Salisbury steak

Nacho salad

Sangria
Sunzibar, I believe, is one of Tacloban's best place to dine. Not only do they serve yummy Mexican dishes at reasonable prices but the atmosphere of the place itself is cozy. I love the place 'coz it's perfect for chilling with friends and feasting our tummies with good food. The first time I went there was last 2008 through a classmate and I immediately fell in love with the place - been returning there ever since. I'm so glad that my boyfriend and friends also love Sunzibar so it won't be that hard to convince them to dine there, haha!!!

It's actually been a long time since I went there and this blog is reminding my tummy to go back there! If only it's not far from where I live maybe I'll be there on a monthly (or weekly) basis, haha!!! I'm gushing so much already so I think it's already obvious that this is one of my favorite resto in Tacloban?!? :)

Location: Burgos St., Tacloban City
