RECAP: 27 Things

Last year, I made a commitment to finally accomplish my long overdue to-do list in this entry. It's actually still two days from now before I turn 27 but I want to do the checking now on how far or good I did. So how did I go? #nervous

  1. Finish my Masters - I still need to pass my compre this September! (Lord bless me)
  2. Save a six figures (or higher if possible, hahaha!!!) in my bank account - Haha! Still far from reality! But I'm on my way there!
  3. Pay off all my credit card debt - Also getting there.
  4. Get promoted - Can I say the same thing with no. 3?
  5. Buy a lot - Not even close!
  6. Bake a cake or cupcake - Does baked spaghetti counts?
  7. Cook a real food - Yes!!! More than once!
  8. Learn to drive - Haist! Haven't find the time yet!
  9. Finish reading a book - Same with no. 8.
  10. Run in a marathon - This I'm proud of! 5 times!!!
  11. Lose 5-10 lbs - Gain pwde?!?!? :(
  12. Go to Boracay - Not yet!!! But I had my share of local travels this year!
  13. Travel overseas - A dream come true!!! Went to HK last June with my siblings!
  14. Stroll Lyka (our dog) in the park - I did! * pat on the back*
  15. Donate to a charity - Yes! Last December with my Einstein family.

  17. Walk across San Juanico Bridge -Soooooon!
  18. Never be late again for work! - Another pat on the back for me!!! :)
  19. Wear a boots in an ordinary day - But of course!!!!
  20. Purchase a jewelry - Finally purchased a simple bangle at HK. Yey!!!
  21. Visit an old friend I haven't seen for a long time - Hmmmm....
  22. Attend mass every Sunday - Guilty and not proud.
  23. Have a confession - Have I??
  24. Go to beach early morning - Naaaahhhh..
  25. NO to RICE for dinner - How I wish!
  26. Continue blogging - But not as often as before!
  27. Get married - Still far, far from happening :)
So how bad I did? 9 out of 27!!! That's not even 50%!!! What went wrong? I want to say that the reason is the stressful year I’m having right now. But I don’t want to make any excuses coz pag gusto may paraan, pag ayaw maraming dahilan. Tsk! Well it’s really time management. Self management. Commitment.  It’s ok. I still have another year to do it. Please God.

Project Gratitude & Positivity

It has been a while since I wrote my last blog entry. So many things have happened since January and I can pretty much say that what an unbelievable three months I had! I've been busy with work and school and now here I am at home doing nothing on a Good Friday. Hey, don't get me wrong 'coz I have also been  praying and reflecting... That's why here I am typing on my keyboard about my thoughts...

Lately... I realized that I rant so much that I forget how blessed I am. I dwell so much on negativity that it is already tiring. This Holy Week has allowed me to reflect and unload these baggages I have been carrying for quite some time. I had a rough start this year but that doesn't mean that everything is totally bad. Of course not! There's so much to be thankful for. Glad to stumble upon Stella's blog entry on Project Gratitude. The idea is to list down all the awesome things that happened this year. Instead of putting the list in a jar I will chronicle it in my blog. Each month I would like to update this entry and list down the wonderful things that happened. Nice idea right? :) We should focus more on the positivity and we could only do that if we have a grateful attitude thus the title of this entry. This is a project because I want this to be a lifelong undertaking. Good luck to me! :)

JANUARY

I will always be forever grateful of my stint in our regional office. It was nice working with the bosses. Definitely I learned so much about the Marketing aspect of banking and my perspectives about work have changed (for the better, I hope...hehe).

I had mixed emotions going back to Ormoc Branch because RMC was already my comfort zone but I know that it was for my growth. It was nice being with my former branch...and the challenges I'm experiencing with my "new" job excites me (although sometimes it scares me so much....but I'm loving the whole new experience).

I'm so thankful for this for this new opportunity... It's crazy sometimes but I'm praying to God that I'll survive with flying colors :)

Yey!!! I'll be able to erase no. 7 on my 27 Things To Do which is Cook a real food. Forgive me for exaggerating (oo gulay LANG toh, huhuhu!!!) because for someone like me who only knows how to fry...this is quite a big deal! More to come, i hope *fingers crossed*

FEBRUARY

A Valentines' date with Ian :) Plus he surprised me with a bouquet of flowers and bag!!! :) This is one reason why I love Ormoc :)

Finally!!!!!! I'm done with school but result's next week *sigh* Talk about prolonging the agony... I hope my best was good enough....

My first MAC lippie :)

26th

thank you to my barkada Roselyn for making this :)

I can't believe I'm already 26!!! :) But I'm not complaining. In fact I'm thankful that I've reached this age happy and healthy. More than ten years ago I used to think that those people aged 26 and above are already old (25 is the oldest among the bunch of young people, haha!). Also, at 26 I have this perception that people are already stable with their career, sure of themselves, and happily committed/single. That at 26, they have cars and houses or at least close to getting them. Now I wonder if my perceptions then were right or simply I'm not there yet.

I remember what a friend told me before that success doesn't come with age. It's good if you have goals and you're set to achieve them on a specific age like I did (which I wrote here). But don't be disheartened if at 26 you're still single and you're still living with your parents or you're not yet a manager, haha!!! That's how life is. Maybe at 16 you imagined yourself to be living a super fabulous life but fast forward ten years later... you're still struggling to make both ends meet. But that's okay. What's important, I believe, is that you still continue to dream and you manage to make your life fabulous despite the challenges and frustrations.

So what are my wishes for my 26th birthday? I just hope for a better ME. A Darleen that is down-to-earth but vibrant. A Darleen who is not settled with mediocrity. A Darleen who values her relationships with God, family, boyfriend, and friends. A Darleen who sees the beauty in life despite of so many setbacks. A Darleen who is a go-getter but maintains a happy disposition. :)

Thank you God for a beautiful life! My thank you is not enough to show You how grateful I am for everything You gave and done for me. I love You daddy God :)

Day 08 - A Moment You Felt The Most Satisfied With Your Life.

When mama was still around. When life was less complicated. I'm not complaining though because even though life did not turn out the way I expect them to be, I'm learning and I'm blessed...so much!!!

Day 06 - 30 interesting facts about yourself.

  1. Pinaglihi daw ako sa kamote. That’s why I got no hair when I was born. Gladly, when I started school, my hair grew! J

  1. Feeling beauty queen ako when I was little! Feeling cute and pretty! I was a brat – then! Haha! As in! I was so talkative too that I like arguing with adults! Grrrr...
  1. I loved reading story books when I was younger. Instead of asking for food as a pasalubong, I would tell my father or my aunts to buy books! Nerd! Or hopeless romantic??? Haha!
the only remaining story books in the house, which is actually owned by my brother.
  1. I was a consistent honor student back in my elementary days. What happened to me??? Haha!
  1. It was a shock to me that I went to a public school in highschool (LNHS) after years of studying in a Catholic school. It was my last choice but definitely the best choice!!! J My first few months studying in Leyte High was unforgettable (in a bad way though)! Toilets had no “bowl”. Chairs had no arms...haha!!! The walls, chairs, and tables in the rooms were filled with vandalisms. There was a pile of trash at the back of our room.  Canteen foods were unsanitary (?). Blah...blah..blah... But hey! I loved my highschool! Friendships and dreams were built during these years. Nothing compares to my Leyte High experience! I so LOVE my highschool classmates! Can you believe we were in 50+ in our class??? J But we clicked!!!
innocent and still skinny. haha!
  1. I met my barkada in Leyte High. Roselyn (a schoolmate since Nursery, classmate in Grade 1-4, and when we were in 2nd year hs we were inseparable already! Naks!) who is witty, mysterious, driven, and very much outgoing! She is the kind of friend who will kill for you...okay...that’s scary..hehe...she’s the kind of friend who will fight for your honor! J Haha! Seriously... she will defend you from haters. She’s also very generous of her time and resources. J Armme, on the other hand, may seem meek but she’s a fighter. Very responsible. A risk taker. An honest person to the point that her bluntness scares us, haha!!! She’s also a giver in a way that she’ll give up a seat for us...aawww!!! J And Kristel, who is boyish but this girl has a charm that many loves. Crush ng bayan kaya!!! She may seem tough (in a way she is) but she has a soft heart. She has a very good memory!!! That’s why she is a good story teller (she knows up to the last detail, haha!) She’s a “cowgirl” and so adventurous! She may be loud but she has so many thoughts in her mind that few people only knew. Well...these three ladies are not only beautiful but also smart and did I mention they are true friends? They are!!! And I so love them!

  1. My crushes are not usually the most handsome in the campus... but more on the smart and leader types! Haha!!!
  1. My first plane ride was on 2007 at the age of 20! We were going to Manila for a vacay. The first time I went there was in 2004 for a class fieldtrip and di pa uso promo fares nun! Landtrip pa!!! But hey, riding a bus can actually be fun especially if you’re with a crazy bunch of people plus you’ll get to see a lot of places – hello, Mayon Volcano!
mall tour.
  1. I spent my 18th birthday (my debut) in Enchanted Kingdom. Related to my story above, we were in Manila for a fieldtrip and a part of our itinerary is to visit EK! Yey!!!
  1. First boyfriend was when I was 17. Enough said. Haha.
  1. First REAL heartbreak was when I was 22. No more comment. Haha. But FYI, if not for that heartbreak...I would not have Ian now, right??? J
  1. One of my most memorable birthday was my 24th!!! It was a blast!!! A friend hired a group to serenade me. Ian (we were not bf-gf then) surprised me with a cake and flowers! And my officemates prepared foods! Yahooo!

  1. I’m a lousy singer. Period.
  1. I’m not good in sports! Duh! Haha!
  1. I have a pet dog named Lyka. She’s half daschund, half Japanese spitz. In a way, I thinks she’s like me. Stubborn but fun-loving! Haha!
and did i mention she's a couch potato like me? haha!
  1. Aside from watching cartoons like Slam Dunk, Ghost Fighter, Si Mary at ang Lihim na Hardin... I was a fan of Power Rangers! In my dreams I was Yellow Ranger...oh yeah! Saber Tooth Tiger!!! lol!
di na kita si blue ranger.
  1. I used to hate eating sweets before. I was more a rice eater that I even prefer it during snacks as well.
  1. When mIRC was the still the coolest thing in the Internet, I would join the trivia games. The highest place I got was only second. Remember that???
  1. Ian and I don’t have a monthsary. Well..our relationship did not start from courtship. It just developed from friendship to a “romantic relationship.” I have actually no problem even if we don’t get to celebrate monthsaries but I would want to have an anniversary. So we celebrate it every August – the exact date? The day he first texted me! Haha!
  1. I’m more of a tea drinker than a coffee drinker.
  1. My favourite ulam is anything with sabaw! Yummeeee!
  1. I dread the heights! I’m scared actually of trying the rides in theme parks/carnival that involve heights!!! Though I try those that are keribels (haha!!!) but rollercoasters??? NOOOOOOOO!!! J In fairness to me, I’ve tried zipline!!!! Yohooooo!!!

  1. My zodiac sign is Virgo so that makes me shy, idealistic, quite critical, intellectual, and perfectionist. Haha! Well, according to this site.
  1. I used to believe in fairies and Santa Claus! Haha!
  1. My favourite games when I was still a kid were: Chinese garter (na tumbling pa ako! Haha!), jackstone, bahay-bahayan, & bado-bado! Haha... How I wish kids nowadays will be more interactive and physical like before.
  1. I had braces for my teeth when I was in college. I had it for almost 4 years I think! Wearing it was one my most excruciating experience in my entire life! Haha! That’s why I got tired when I still have to wear my retainer after that... I don’t want to anymore! Sadly...my lower tooth suffered L

me when i was 19 (i guess..)
  1. I’m a very sentimental person that I like writing letters, receiving one and keeping them J So imagine my despair when my well-kept and loved letters were attacked by insects..huhuhu!!!! I’m so sentimental that I find it hard also to let go of my old clothes (recently, I gave them away because I know my body size won’t shrink anymore, haiz!), notes in college (hello, what’s the use when there’s the internet and the books!), and anything I find valuable but useless pala! So it’s been a vow of mine to throw all the things I won’t need at least once a year (hahaha!) to de-clutter my space.
  1. It has also been a habit of mine to collect anything from my dates with Ian. As in anything...from receipts, to tickets, to tissue paper, to candy wrappers...haha addict!!! I even made a scrapbook out of it! Though I need to make another one to organize the “memorabilia” in my room. J
  1. I like writing my thoughts in a journal/diary/notebook especially when I’m grieving. Naks! I have lots of them that I don’t get to fully utilize the journal..haha! That’s why I started this blog...so that everything is in place...everything will be in here...ahmm...not everything though (my DEEPEST thoughts are kept somewhere...haha!) But here in my blog, my ramblings are written, my vanity is shown, and my fantasies are bared! Haha! And I have my Pinterest, Springpad, and Tumblr to store my other musings. Thank God for the Internet! J
  1. I’m such a mushy person...Ok..I’m emotional and I cry easily – when I’m sad, in pain, angry, happy (oh yes!), missing someone, reading a poignant book, and when watching a touching movie. I’m an emotional person that I get to show my happiness, anger, pity right away. This is not good at times though and I’m trying not to let this attitude control me. The complexities in me nga naman! But I love me and my life!!!! J
So am I interesting??? I bet we all are! Let’s just live with so much hope and joy so that at the end of the day, no matter what happens we can proudly say that we have REALLY lived. xoxo.

Day 05 - A time you thought about ending your own life.

Well, I have not actually ever thought of ending my own life. As in never because I believe that life is too precious to end, except for natural death of course, haha. Although there are times that I feel so hopeless, I try to manage to survive because I still want to pursue my dreams and experience living.

So, in order for this blog not to be wasted... let me share with you one of the lowest points in my life. I now have the guts to share this because I have moved on already. Well... it’s no secret that my parents now lead separate lives. At first I was really devastated because at that time we were also experiencing so many crises. Even though my parents were telling me not to be bothered and just continue doing well in my studies, I just can’t help getting affected. I was the eldest and I thought I had to do something to lessen the burden my family was experiencing. During that time, I really felt down, lonely, helpless, and hopeless. My family, who is my source of strength and joy, was in turmoil.

But God is really great. He really is. Slowly, the crises were fading and we were starting to be a family again despite my parents’ (physical) absence. My father at that time was assigned in Borongan and my mother was (still there actually) in the US.

My parents, regardless of their marital status, are still doing their duties to us. They continue giving us a comfortable and decent life. They have been able to provide our needs and more than that at times. They have been supportive of our dreams. They have showered us with so much love, care, patience, and acceptance. We have never been the ideal children but they have never given up guiding and supporting us. We are still lucky and blessed to have them as parents. Though there are times that I still wish that we could be a complete family again, I instead thank the Lord because He gave us a good father and mother J

My mother would always tell me that whatever happened between her and my father doesn’t necessarily follow that it would also happen to me. She dreams for me (for us her children actually) not only to have a career I love but to also have a happy and complete family of my own. I am actually looking forward to that day J Someday.

"Life rarely turns out exactly the way you want it to, but you still have an opportunity to make it great. " Life goes on. We should not be stuck in a situation wherein we will not grow. Everyday is a new day. Each day brings new experience to be learned and cherished. So make each day count. I was inspired reading this blog about surviving during tough times . Hope you do too. :)

Just finished today the nine-day novena mass at Sto. Nino Parish. Whew! I can say that there were challenges in between this nine days - a conflict with a sibling, a confrontation with a friend, and a sudden death by a close relative.  But it didn't stop me from attending the mass. The more that it pushed me to be there. But it also made me realize to be unselfish and not only pray for my own desires.

Anyway, I do hope that "whatever" it is that I have been praying so hard this past nine days will be realized. Please. :) And I'm also hoping that my life will be back to normal. Normal as in at peace. Normal as in happier.

Thank you God for being so great! That despite my imperfections, I am blessed and loved. Without You, I am nothing.

27 Things To Do Before I Turn 27

While having lunch, me and my co-workers had the chance to talk to our boss about investments and making the most of our time and money while we are still young. I was really motivated after the conversation. It made me ponder about my life.

Some of us who are in our 20s tend to "overenjoy" that we stop caring of what will happen tomorrow. I feel so guilty that after working for five years already, I begin to wonder what happened to my life. I have an insignificant amount of savings way smaller than my debt (huhuhu!!!) I haven't finished my Masters degree yet (been studying for four years already) And I have gained almost ten pounds after graduating from college!!!

Well, at least I can say that I'm pretty much happy with my life right now even though some things did not turn out the way I expect them to be. We can never really plan our life right? Eventually, a few surprises are bound to happen and I believe that sometimes what happen later are actually better than our original plans. I guess what's really important in life is to never take your values for granted 'coz they define who you are and they are the key on where you are heading.

So here I am making a list once again on what I want..blah..blah...blah!!! Haha! So what makes this list different from the previous ones I made??? This actually has a "due date" hehe... For goals should be SMART...meaning your goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time Bound. Now I know why I still feel I have accomplished less. It's because I don't put a deadline on my goals.. tsk..tsk...

The "tasks" below are actually long overdue, that's why I'm giving myself a year (less than 15 months really) to accomplish them all - before my 27th birthday next year! So am I crazy for doing this??? Is 27 too many??? Omg! Before I panic, I have to remind myself again why I am doing this. I am doing this because...because??? I want to put a direction in my life. For once, I can actually say that I haven't wasted my time and I have done so much in a span of one year. Well, I do hope that being productive could go on till my last breath, haha!
